O Pioneers

In the matter of a previous roundup of  nine Crossword Bloggers:

An important reminder from KarmaSartre brings to mind two NYT crossword bloggers (Curtis Yee and Linda G.) who blazed trails of their own.

It has come to my attention that, from Day One, crossword bloggers conspired to be symmetric.  The evidence is clear: they posted under names like DEB, DON, REX, AMY, PAT, JIM, RYAN, ROSS, BRIAN (six 3's, two 4's and one 5). . . and CURTIS and LINDAG (two 6's).

Really? Such premeditated symmetry shall not go unnoticed. Ladies and gentlemen, we're onto you . . .

Curtis Yee, dubbed "Father of Crossword Blogs" by Patrick Merrell, started the ball rolling on April 18, 2005. The date stamp establishes paternity. How cool is that: a 20-something Curtis is the "Father" of a blogging movement. And who can forget Linda G.'s lovely blog? Though I've never met or spoken to Linda G., I imagine that she has a beautiful voice; it came through in her writing.  I'm glad that their blogs are still up for us to enjoy.

Willa Cather's O Pioneers! chronicles the enduring spirit of life on the prairie.  Say "O Pioneers!" really fast and it'll elide into -- OPINERS (deep thinkers, like Curtis and Linda G.) It's Friday - champagne flutes are raised to toast Curtis, Linda G. and the crossword bloggers who breathe life into puzzles by solving them.  Cheers to you!

I haven't heard the word opine in so long that I almost forgot it existed. Here's to all the crossword bloggers for inspiring it's usage! And for creating such an excellent blog genre!

Joanne, you've created your own blog genre -- the unique "PhD/MD Candidate Cooks Amazing Food" genre. Where else can we read about genitourinary exams and Cookie Dough Truffles? I love the juxtaposition of food and med school stories!
